In Memoriam: Jack Layton

Jack Layton stands out as the Canadian politician who has done the most to place the issue of climate change before Canadian voters.  Through his efforts, the Parliament of Canada passed the Climate Change Accountability Act, legislation that adopted targets for cutting green house gas emissions based on well established scientific consensus. The Act was a world first – no other national legislature had passed an equivalent law.

His death is a blow to all Canadians who are fighting against climate change, and are opposed to Canada’s indifferent role in that fight.

The sympathies of For Our Grandchildren are extended to his family and his colleagues.
