A very high profile issue in Peterborough for a number of years and continuing in the current municipal election has been the proposed extension of The Parkway. Even if you’re not from Peterborough you can imagine the debate. It must be something like the debate in Toronto that in 1971 successfully blocked the completion of the Allen Expressway.
In his column in the Peterborough Examiner last week, Drew Monkman dreams of a future without the parkway if we elect a mayor and councillors who care to listen to their constituents and who will guide the city to grow in a sustainable way. He points out that some of the candidates for mayor and council understand and support his dream.
