Grass Roots Democracy – Letter to your MP

By Peter Jones

Do you agree that we must convince our politicians to act to mitigate climate change before it is truly too late?

If you do, then a good way to do this is to meet with them and ask them to act now. With an election due in 2015, your member of parliament – whether Conservative, Liberal, NDP or Green Party candidate – needs to be aware of your support so now is the time.

Recently, JustEarth sent emails to all GTA Members of Parliament requesting that they meet with their constituents to discuss climate change. So far, Michael Chong (Cons) has agreed (as long there is at least one of his constituents). Craig Scott (NDP), Mike Wallace (Cons) and Corneliu Chisu (Cons) have also accepted our invitation. No Liberals yet :-(

4RG supports this project. If any of our supporters would be interested in joining Just Earth Representatives in one (or more) of these meetings please send a message to info@justearth.net.

If your MP is not among those who have agreed to meet with constituents, you can go to our letter writing page. You will find tips on composing a letter and sample letters that we have previously sent. A letter should be able to get you an appointment to see your MP – particularly if some of your friends join you.

COP21 in Paris presents an opportunity (maybe the last) for the world to agree to act. Canada needs to play a positive role. Please spread the word.
