New and Familiar Voices

By Peter Jones

For over a decade, For Our Grandchildren has campaigned for a limit on greenhouse gas emissions – the principal reason for increases in

  • the world’s average temperature,
  • the acidity of the oceans and rising water levels,
  • climate disruption that has produced new extremes in storms, drought and floods,
  • food shortages . .

Even Richard Attenborough,  a moderate commentator on issues affecting our planet, has moved into the pessimistic camp with his most recent analysis of the effect of global warming on future generations.

Yet there have been and are always reasons to be hopeful. Here are two links that you should follow and – if you do – I expect that you will be encouraged – as I was.

One link will lead to a video  on the Subject of a Green New deal . . as  narrated by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – elected as a member of the US House of Representatives in 2015. She comments on the perplexing question: “What if we chose to radically change course and save both our habitat and ourselves?

The Second Link is a video sponsored by Kairos a Toronto organization focused on climate change. Comments by both laity and ministers stress the need for a change of heart and a commitment to action.

Please visit these links, and if you react the same way I did – with hope – please pass on the links to your friends  And add any comments to the bottom of this post
