John O’Brien, from Peterborough county, recently created a personal video “It’s Up To Us”. Here’s how he explains why.
My wife and I attended the Climate Strike at Queen’s Park, Toronto, in May of this year.
As concerned Canadians, worried about the future we’re leaving for our Children and Grandchildren, we have recently completed a video, now up on YouTube. We want to make sure people know how important this movement is — particularly to older adults, (we’re in our early 60’s). We’d like to get this in front of as many eyes as possible. We’re trying to show people that there are things that “everyday, ordinary people” can do to start turning this crisis around before it is too late.
We’ve designed it to show why we became Environmentalists over 35 years ago, and what has led us to where we are today. People need to stand up and have their voices heard at all levels of government.
We’ve made it non-partisan because we don’t want to exclude anyone – this issue is now at the top of people’s minds, regardless of their political affiliations — but they also have to start making themselves heard more, and that is what this video encourages and explains the importance of.
Please have a look, and forward this on to as many people as you can, even if you can’t do it through your own organizations, you could have your staff do it on their own.
Please let us know if you have any thoughts about how to achieve this — they would be gladly accepted.
(And, Yes, the video isn’t as polished as it could be, by perhaps using pros to make it, but we are “just average, everyday people” and we wanted to show that it is that important to all of us)
