Nature in the Kawarthas is undergoing profound changes. Not only are we seeing a host of new species, but many iconic birds, mammals, and trees are finding it increasingly difficult to survive here. Being aware of the types of changes happening and paying attention to how quickly they are progressing are ways to make the climate crisis more personal and concrete. This, in turn, becomes a strong motivation to take action.
Drew Monkman, a local naturalist, writer, and 4RG Executive member, will explain how the local climate is changing, what impacts this is having on plants and animals as well as human health, what future consequences we can expect, and what we all can do to better protect wildlife and thereby enrich our lives.
